Public benefit

Severn Dean Lions Club (CIO) is established for charitable purposes that benefit the public. Our trustees have regard to the Charity Commission's public benefit guidance in everything we do.

Our purposes

We relieve need, hardship and distress, advance education, protect health, and support the community in the Forest of Dean, Gloucester and further afield โ€” funding local good causes and providing direct welfare help to people facing difficulty.

How the public benefits

  • Grants to local groups, schools and good causes (see our causes).
  • Direct welfare support to individuals and families in need (see get help).
  • Support for national and international relief through Lions Clubs International Foundation.
  • Community events that bring people together, such as our Bonfire & Fireworks night and the Wild Boar Chase.

No private benefit

Our trustees serve as volunteers and receive no payment for being trustees. The funds we raise are applied solely to our charitable purposes for the benefit of the public. Our work and finances are reported each year in our annual reports and accounts.
